Student activities outside the lectures have always been a long-awaited moment. Relieving fatigue after busy lectures and doing a myriad of other activities, sports activities have become a choice for their atheletes. Like for example, the Unpar Badminton Club, one of the student activity units of Catholic University of Parahyangan (UKM Unpar), which of course become a forum for badminton sports enthusiasts as well as students who take an interest in and talent for it.
The Unpar Badminton Club has just held the Unpar Badminton Competition (UBC) 2018, on April 4-11 at theOBC Sports Center, Ciumbuleuit. This activity has been held since 2014. UBC is a badminton competition dedicated to all Unpar academicians, including students, lecturers, employees, administrators, and other Unpar employees.
Fransiskow, Chairman of UBC 2018, said the number of UBC participants this year amounted to more than 50 people, divided into men’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
“We use the league system, the points system, not the knockout system,” explained the team Unpar Publications on the sidelines of UBC’s final match on Wednesday (11/4).
This league system, he continued, counted win-lose scores. One pair has to fight five pairs of other teams. “Like a soccer competition,” he said.
Meanwhile, the category of Men’s Singles, 1st place was won by Bobby Alexander; Christian Adrien occupied the 2nd place. For Men’s Doubles, 1st place was won by Christian Adrien and Kelvin Setiawan; 2nd place by Bobby Alexander and Ricky Setiadi; and the 3rd Winner by Albertini Batista and Ferdiyanto Kurniawan while in the category of Women’s Double, Frensisca Violin and Lauryn Ferliyanti came first; 2nd Winner by Devina Puspasari and Putri Pratiwi, and 3rd Winner by Evelyn Febrina and Mutiara Permata. Bobby Alexander and Princess Pratiwi returned to victory in first place in the Mixed Doubles category. In the 2nd position, the Mixed Doubles waswon by Reynard Stephen and Devina Puspasari, and Albertini Batista and Lauryn Ferliyanti in 3rd position.
The purpose of holding UBC is similar to any other invitations. One of them, said Fransiskow, is to spot potential players and encourage them to join the badminton competition/arena at the national level and beyond.
For nearly a week, the UBC was lively. Starting with the opening on day one, the preliminary round, the finals, until the grand final and closing ceremony. He hoped such activities can encourage Unpar students to have the courage to compete in bigger competitions and uphold the name of Unpar.
