UNPAR.AC.ID, Bandung – Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR)officially begun constructing the student dormitory and education facilities for program of studies outside the main campus (PSDKU) in the national capital (IKN) of the indonesian archipelago, North Penajam Paser Regency, Thursday, September 7, 2023. The start of the project was inaugurated with a groundbreaking ceremony held at Pertamina Pipeline Road, Kilometer 08, Nipah-nipah Village, Penajam District, PPU.
The construction of the dormitory and educational facilities is in collaboration with the Widya Bhakti Foundation as a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 25, 2022, regarding the enhancement of human resources (HR) in PPU in the field of education.
UNPAR Rector Prof. Tri Basuki Joewono hopes that the groundbreaking ceremony will not merely be a formality but will mark the real beginning of constructing student dormitories and educational facilities in PPU.
“UNPAR has a great ambition to provide educational services that cultivate human beings with humanum character, innovative, creative, and ecological. This ideal could be achieved if the education service is of high quality,” he stated.
According to him, for the initial phase of construction, UNPAR has gone through a lengthy process. Starting from the licensing process for opening PSDKU, including the proposal submissions for the approval of opening the program of studies (Prodi). It is hoped that by 2024, UNPAR will be able to open three Prodi.
“For the initial phase, UNPAR will open three Study Programs in PPU, namely Public Administration, Business Administration, and Law. This is because the center of government is in IKN, so that it can contribute significantly to the center of government of the IKN with these fields of knowledge,” he explained.
Mangadar Situmorang, a representative of the PSDKU UNPAR IKN Nusantara development team, expressed appreciation from the foundation and UNPAR leadership to the PPU Regent Hamdam for their collaboration thus far. As is known, UNPAR has also signed an MoU with the PPU Government on July 13, 2022, to collaborate on the development of educational services in PPU.
“The foundation and UNPAR leadership extend their highest appreciation to Mr. Regent and all officials of the PPU Government for their support and cooperation. We welcome and support the Regency Government’s vision to enhance the quality of HR in PPU, which will be a key player in supporting the IKN,” he stated.
Meanwhile, PPU Regent Hamdam welcomed the construction of the UNPAR student dormitory and educational facilities in PPU. The community and the PPU Government will gain significant benefits from UNPAR. He stated that it is the government’s duty to respond to demands of the citizens regarding the enhancement of HR in PPU in the field of education.

“We are well aware that our human resources may still be considered low, even though some have been able to compete outside of PPU. However, the majority certainly still lack the ability to compete, so the local government must take action. There must be efforts to prepare a place for the sons and daughters of this region so that they can get quality and affordable education,” said Hamdam.
He also hopes that the construction of UNPAR in PPU will not take too long. In fact, if possible, he wishes that the PSDKU UNPAR in PPU can be realized by 2024.
“Our hope is that the local government’s steps through cooperation with various universities in Indonesia can improve our human resources toward a better direction in order to welcome the development of the IKN in the future,” he concluded. (ABI-Humas UNPAR)
