History of the Establishment

Parahyangan Catholic University

With the completion of the Indonesian Independence War in late 1949, efforts to build the Indonesian nation began in 1950. At that time, there was a significant shortage of highly educated professionals needed to build Indonesia. There were only about 200 law graduates, while Indonesia’s population had already surpassed 90 million.

Seeing this situation, the leaders of the Catholic Church in Indonesia felt called to participate in addressing the problem. The bishops agreed to establish a Catholic university in Indonesia. However, concrete actions were not immediately taken, as establishing a university was clearly not easy.
