On October 25-26 several students of the Civil Engineering Study Program represented Parahyangan Catholic University AT the International Geotechnical Festival (GeoFest 2015) scientific competition at the Aseana Hotel Resort World Langkawi, Malaysia.
This competition was held by the Research Centre for Soft Soils Malaysia (RECESS), the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FKAAS), and the office of Research, Innovation, Commercialization, and Consultancy Management (ORICC). A total of 26 teams from various universities including Parahyangan Catholic University participated in the event.
The teams from Parahyangan Catholic University won two out of four categories, namely: “The Best Poster” with the theme “The Study on Dyke Failure and Its Countermeasure for Mud Protection in Sidoarjo, East Java”. The award went to the Future Geotechnical Expert team (FGE) with Nisa Utami Rachmayanti (2012410113), Andreas Erdian Wijaya (2012410088), Jeremy Gamaliel (2012410182), and Alizal Arafianto (2012410029) as its members.
Not only in “The Best Poster Award” category, the Bhakti Parahyangan team also won “the Best of the Best” category with the theme “Mitigation and Risk Reduction of Mud Eruption and Disaster in East Java Using Vacuum Consolidation Method”. The award went to Joshua Kurniawan Sindaka (2012410020), Angeline Dite Panca Kartika Ningtyas (2012410196), and Rahardiyan Narendra (an alumnus of the Civil Engineering Faculty of Parahyangan Catholic University). The Trophy for this award was extended by the Malaysian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk. Dr. Abu Bakar.
In addition to hosting the competition, the organizing commitee also held the Soft Soil Engineering International Conference (SEIC 2015) on October 26-27. One of the keynote speakers for the conference was Professor Paulus P. Rahardjo, a Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Faculty of Parahyangan Catholic University and an expert in Geotechnical Engineering.
