Us Vs Corruption

On December 9, 2015, 94 countries pledged to fight corruption. The ratification of the UN Anti-Corruption Convention that took place in Merida, Mexico signifies that every country is obliged to fight this corrosive phenomenon in society.

Indonesia is one of the countries that has pledged its effort to be freed from coruption. Ever since the announcement of Presidential Instruction Number 5 of 2004 concerning the Acceleration of Corruption Eradication on December 9, 2004, the Indonesian Government has projected work programs that enable clean governance free from Corruption, Collution and Nepotism.

Nevertheless, why has Indonesia never been free from bribery, misapropriation, or gratification? what has made corruption deeply rooted in this country.?

The Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Anies Rasyid Baswedan stated that “Indonesia is full of problems not because there are a lot of bad people but because the good ones chose to be silent and permissive.”

Started out by the awareness as the future righteous generation, the Parahyangan Catholic University’s Student Union has pledged its support to fighting corruption.

On Friday (4/12) through the ‘BASA-BASI’ Bangkit Bersama Berantas Korupsi Meet and Greet Session, UNPAR students, commemorating the international anti-corruption day, declared that:

  1. We, UNPAR students will actively and continually take part in corruption eradication starting from our closest surroundings within our capabilities as Indonesian students;
  2. We UNPAR students are against the weakening and criminilization of the Corruption Eradication Comission (KPK) and other law enforcement organizations that are actively aredicating corruption;
  3. We, Unpar Students will always try to make the culture and spirit of anti-corruption familiar to all and invite all students and elements of UNPAR to take part in achieving this;
  4. We, UNPAR students will always try to maintain financial transparency and acountability entrusted to us as students of UNPAR.

These are the collective voices and acts echoed by reprentatives of students from all study programs within Parahyangan Catholic University.

Indonesia, We care.
