From July to November 2015, a well-known property company, Sinar Mas Land in cooperation with the Indonesian Architect Association/ Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI) held the Sinar Mas Land Young Architect Competition (SMLYAC 2015). This architectural design competition was held as a form of appreciation of Sinar Mas Land to Indonesian young architects.
Based on the online adjudicating of SMLYAC 2015, five nominees were chosen from each category namely: the Commercial Development category, the Residential Development category, and the Resort Master plan category. The adjudicating was based on three elements covering: architectural planning and design, green/nature-oriented design, and design statement.
The Architecture Study Program of Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) participated in this prestigious competition and eight groups went on to the second-stage selection of the SMLYAC 2015.
Professional adjudicators involved in this competition are Ardi Yahya, Tiyok Prasetyoadi, and Sukendro Sukendar from IAI Jakarta; Rafael David (Principle Aboday Architect), as well as Sofyan Sibarani (AECOM practitioner). The SMLYAC 2015 also invited international adjudicators namely: Marcel Padmos (Senior Design Master planning Associate in WATC Corporation Singapore) and Gerald G. Tambis (Technical Advisor for Sinar Mas Land).
After the adjudicating process by competent adjudicators, Sinar Mas Land announced nine winners in the SMLYAC 2015 awarding night on Friday (4/12).
In the Commercial Development category, nominees were given the opportunity to give input and participate in planning the concept of commercial projects inline with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Sinar Mas Land. Based on the adjudicating process, the work of UNPAR students, Kalvin Widjaja and Dian Indah entitled “The Origin” was awarded the first runner-up prize.
For the Residential Development category, all the awards were won by UNPAR students. The winner was the team of Cindy Valeriani entitled “Arkara @BSD City” the first runner-up was the team of Antonius Richard Rusli entitled “Amerta” and the second runner-up was the team of Lucky Fachrurrozi entitled “Bijou Residences”

At the closing of the event, UNPAR has once again proven that students of the Architecture Study Program deserve to win. In the category of Resort Master Plan, nominees may contribute and follow any ideas and thoughts in designing the concept and the design of one of the resort projects of Sinar Mas Land. In this category, UNPAR students won two out of the three awards. The winner was the team of Silvanus A. Saputra entitled “PARASNUSA – Experience Integrated Lifestyle of Archipelago” and the second runner-up was the team of Raynaldo Theodeore entitled “Goldsands Beach Resort”
The award night that was held at the Nusantara I Hall, International Convention and Exhibition (ICE) BSD City, Tangerang Selatan, Banten presented Muhammad Tulus, an alumna of UNPAR who has become a well known musician in Indonesia.
The SMLYAC 2015 award dominated by the students of Architecture Study Program of UNPAR has proven that UNPAR possesses leading, competitive and young architects who are ready to share their knowledge for the development of architecture in Indonesia.
