Design competition held by the Housing Estate magazine in collaboration with Kota Baru Parahyangan (KBP) Bandung in 2014 brings new phenomena. Winners for the student category were all taken by students from Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) Bandung.
They are Steve Aditya Soesanto, Teguh Risnandar Utama, and Lucky Fachrurrozi with their work title of Rumah Titiswari (1st Place), Estevantra Sunandirjaya, Wendy Setia Herdian, Yeriel Johan with Griya Tirta Wedari (2nd Place), and Nikita Stephanie Marisca and Gavin Adi Sugiri takes the 3rd place with The Lakeshore.
Although the prizes were taken by UNPAR students, none of the juries come from the same campus. “This is a surprise, previous years all the winners come from several campus. The juries also didn’t come from UNPAR, they are Baskoro Tedjo, senior architect and lecturer of the architecture department of ITB, Irianto PH, from Antara Design (Jakarta), Achmad D. Tardiyana (Urbane Bandung), and Sugiharto, Head of Planning and Design of KBP,” stated Halimatussadiyah, architect graduate from UI and editor of Housing Estate magazine, which also a member of the jury.
Diyah explained that participants of this year’s design competition for student category indeed dominated by UNPAR students. About 70 percent of its participants come from that campus. Perhaps it is because the location of competition objects that is also in Bandung, which is Kota Baru Parahyangan which located in Padalarang, Bandung Regency. “Because of the proximity of this location makes the student participants from Bandung easier to explore because they already know the territory and context,” he added.
According to Baskoro Tedjo, this Housing Estate KBP design competition prioritizes the assessment that is most optimal on utilizing the site potential to its design. “Besides that, judgment of the work also based on the ease of application and potential to be accepted by the market. This is an important point because this work will be applied in the housing development,” stated Sugiharto.
