Improving Intelligence Concerning Health

Tingkatkan Kecerdasan akan Kesehatan

“When talking about health, it is a relatively uninteresting topic, why? Because health is not interesting when we have it. It becomes interesting when it leaves us”, according to Ade Rai during a Talk Show entitled “Introduction to Basic Nutrition and Fitness” on Saturday (26/11).

The Talk show began with a joint exercise on the rooftop of building 10, Unpar. At the same time Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) also conducted a soft launching of its employee fitness center in conjunction with Rai Fitness Bandung.

“Similar to what I wanted to say about Intelligence and about fitness. In reality, the purpose of this basic nutrition and fitness introduction is to share with my fellow friends from Unpar the importance of being aware of how to maintain health correctly” according to this Balinese descent when interviewed by the Unpar Publication Team.

He said that the quest for health is easy and cheap when we are healthy. When health has left us, in time of illness, what’s easy will become difficult and what’s cheap will become expensive, “the worst thing is there is no guarantee of full recovery”, he added.

Most people are afraid of facing old age because they said that old age comes with disease. He said that illness does not come from old age, so, there is no correlation between age and someone’s physical condition.

“Chronological or calendar age has no real meaning. It is simply a number. The more crucial is what we call Psychological or biological age that is highly dependant on how we treat our own bodies”, he stated.

Ade Rai also talked about Infectious Illness (Infectious Disease) and Chronic Disease. Both are caused by external invasion, such as viruses or bacteria, this is what we call infectious disease, everything out of our control, that only contributes up to 20-25%. On the other hand chronic disease contributes about 75% of our illness that is caused by our own action.

In the talk show, the Jakarta-born man who had spent two semesters in the International Relations Study Program  Unpar several years ago, talked about the blood sugar level in someone’s body.

He explained that before carbohydrate is stored as fat cell, the carbohydrate enters our blood. When it is in our blood, the sugar level in our blood increases. That is when the pancreas produces a hormone called insulin, whose purpose is as a transporter of excess sugar from our blood. The Pancreas stores it at three terminals, the first terminal is called the liver, and because it has finite capacity the blood sugar goes to the second terminal, our muscle. When we do not routinely train our muscle, that is, when the excess blood sugar enters the third terminal, which is fat.

“every time we eat, our plates are almost always dominated by carbohydrate, the most popular combination is carbohydrate and fat. Fried food, instant noodles, flour, cakes, and so on. The average combination is carbohydrate and fat”. He explained.

“But don’t be discouraged, I only wish to explain that carbohydrate is a source of carbohydrate that we consume the most. Now there is a way to handle this so as not to make us fat. Carbohydrate is like rice. Carbohydrate does not contain fat. Neither does sugar nor flour. So why are we so afraid to consume them? Because carbohydrate is tricky, if we use it, it will become an energy source, if not it will become fat.”, according to the Indonesian Body-building athlete who won first prize and contributed a gold medal for Indonesia at the 1997 SEA Games.

Born under the full name of I Gusti Agung Kusuma Yudha Rai, He also expressed his delight when told that Unpar has supported a cigarette-free campus environment. To him this is in line with one of the visions of Rai fitness that is commonly supporting the Cigarette-free healthy policy.
