Two teams of students from the Physics, Mathematics and Information Technology Study Program of Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) have once again gained prideful international achievement in Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) 2017. A team consisting of Muhammad Arifin Dobson (Physics), Dini Widiana (Physics) and Arvin Cansius (Mathematics) won the title of ” Honorable Mention” in the competition. While the team consisting of Meutia Wulansatiti Nursanto (Physics), Delvydo Melvernaldo (Physics) and Devi Handevi (Information Technology) got the title of ” Successful Participant “.
In the (competition participated in by 8,834 teams from various countries), the participants were asked to choose one of several issues that are open problems . Within 72 hours, the participants should be able to provide solutions to the problem using mathematical models and present them in papers. Arifin, Dini, and Arvin chose the problem regarding the shape of the toll gate lanes that can minimize congestion. Meutia, Delvy, and Devi work on the issue of dam repairs in the Zambesi river, Africa.
The results achieved by these students are an improvement of the results obtained last year. In addition, the title of “Honorable Mention ” puts the Unpar team’s achievement on par with the best results from teams from state universities in Indonesia.
This achievement is expected to be a motivation for other Unpar students to carve out various achievements in the future.
