Overviewing The Indonesia Tax Policy Direction

Tax is one of the most important components in the development of a country. Therefore, a good tax policy is a matter of vital importance to the survival of a country. This policy will also impact everyone, especially economic actors, including students who are currently studying at the college.

This fact was conveyed through a Public Lecture “Directions of Indonesian Tax Policy in the Year 2017”, organized by the Faculty of Economics (FE) Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar). The lecture was attended by students and lecturers who mostly came from the Accounting and Management study programs.

In the lecture held on Thursday (9/2) in the Auditorium of FE, Darussalam, as the Managing Partner of Danny Darussalam Tax Center, it was explained how the tax policy in Indonesia has undergone  transformation, and how tax affect’s the professions related to the field of taxation in the present and the future.

This lecture highlighted the direction of tax policy changes in Indonesia, especially towards the beginning of 2017. One of them is the exemptions of taxes, better known as the tax amnesty. He asserted that the penalties for people who do not report their wealth through the program apply to all citizens, and they are burdensome. Therefore, he reminded all participants actively involved in the lecture to participate in the Tax Amnesty Program.

According to him The problems that are arising at this time, , is the existence of parties trying to evade paying taxes. This happens not only in Indonesia, but all over the world. He cited how a multinational company that has recently exposed tax scandals in various countries, including Indonesia. It is a challenge for tax policy in the future.

Various changes caused by the tax reform also affect professions related to taxes. One of them is the chance of a career as a tax consultant, who are required to have certain competence and knowledge of the taxation policy of a country, especially in Indonesia. In addition, a career in the Directorate General of Taxes can be a promising option.
