Faculty of Law Alumni’s talk: Getting Ready for Employment

UNPAR’s Laboratory of Law held an alumni’s talk on Monday April 27, 2015 from 09.00 until 12.00 WIB (Indonesian Western Time). It was a premiere event for the Faculty of Law of Parahyangan Catholic University, projected to be conducted regularly. The first Alumni’s talk invited Randy Irawan, S.H, an Associate in Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung (in association with Herbert Smith Frehills) with the topic “The Application of Basic Law Concepts in Financing Practices through Banking and Stock Exchange.

The event held in the Moot Court Room was opened with a brief introduction by fromWurianalya Maria Novenanty, S.H., LL.M. She emphasized the importance of maintaining good relationship between UNPAR and its alumni, with the event as of the shapes this might take.

In line with her talk, Randy Irawan stated that the event was crucial and necessary to be held. He then told a story of the first time he entered the world of employment. He was dumbstruck by the existence of practical terms he had not learnt in his university years. He regretted not having taken electives, especially those related with financing. Even though eventually he was able to master them, he felt that students should be better prepared for employment. For him, it does not matter which particular university students are from, all fresh graduates will experience the same thing. Therefore, he advocated a headstart for students through such an event.

The event, originally pioneeered by John Terson, SH, M.Hum, flowed smoothly in a relaxing atmosphere. Responses to questions he put forward amazed Randy. New things also cropped up during the discussion. The Law Faculty alumni who have also ventured into the foodtruck bussiness, really became an eye opener for all involved in the Alumni’s Talk.

This kind of introduction is a good method for students to prepare for employment. UNPAR, and specifically the Faculty of Law will continue to utilize it.
